A review and extension of Vincent Grange's artistic explorations of queer spaces and cultures.
Conceived as an exit inventory of Vincent Grange's The House of Dorothy (2025), after its exhibition at the Istituto Svizzero in Milan, this publication offers, in an original way, a more intimate reading of the project, featuring offbeat texts by researchers, presenting the artist's research, and paying direct tribute to the queer spaces and people who inspired the architecture of the House.
The work The House of Dorothy takes the form of a spatial manifesto. It aims to remind how essential queer spaces are in a world where more than sixty-five countries still criminalize homosexuality or trans identity. It expresses both the joy, pride, and extravagance of queer cultures, while also reflecting the fear, vulnerability, and threats that continue to weigh upon them.
The book extends this immersive experience by offering a more intimate approach, and by giving access to the research that informed the installation, while listing the places, people, and stories that inspired its design. In doing so, it becomes more than documentation: it contributes to the building of LGBTQIA+ archives, an essential gesture in the face of the recurring erasure of this history by certain world leaders. Finally, it allows the doors of the House to be opened to those who could not visit it, offering a symbolic refuge accessible from their own homes—or even from their closets.
Vincent Grange (born 1997 in Geneva) explores and challenges the conventions of heteronormative society through the creation of alternative realities. His work, which includes unique architectures, artifacts, and machines, invites viewers to engage with and interpret each design choice, unraveling the often absurd narratives he weaves.
After gaining his Master's in Space and Communication at HEAD – Genève (Haute École d'Art et Design), Grange co-founded Collectif Kimera, which oversees Espace Dukat, a contemporary art space in Geneva. Additionally, he co-founded Souplex Atelier with his colleague and friend Tanguy Troubat, where he serves as a scenographer and art director.
In 2023, he received the Déliée grant 2023 du Fonds Cantonal d'Art Contemporain. In 2024 he was one of the recipients of the Kiefer Hablitzel Göhner Prize at the Swiss Art Awards.
